Day of the Dead in Mexico City: Security and Offerings

During the Day of the Dead in Mexico City, cemeteries will open their doors with varied hours. Most of them will start receiving visitors at 08:00 in the morning, extending their closing hours from 18:00 to 23:00 hours. These hours vary depending on the number and influx of attendees in each borough.

In some cemeteries, special altars have been prepared as part of the cultural events of the Day of the Dead. For example, in the Benito Juárez borough, an altar has been set up in honor of workers at the Xoco Cemetery. City authorities will be guarding the cemeteries during these two days to ensure the safety of visitors.

The Mexico City Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) has announced the implementation of security, surveillance, and mobility operations in the 16 boroughs on November 1 and 2. More than 18,000 personnel will be deployed across the 120 cemeteries in CDMX to maintain vigilance during both cultural events and surrounding traffic.

The boroughs are carrying out cleaning and maintenance work both inside and outside the cemeteries to welcome families during this traditional celebration. The Day of the Dead is a time when families usually visit their loved ones in cemeteries, so local authorities have intensified security and organization measures to ensure a respectful and safe commemoration.
